Heading towards a sustainable future: our Green Key journey
If you were to journey through the history of our company, you’d discover that sustainability has always been ingrained in our DNA. From the very inception of our business, we’ve been committed to a future that’s green and sustainable. This commitment hasn’t just been evident in our day-to-day operations but also in the extensive renovations and refurbishments we’ve undertaken. With every investment decision and choice we make, sustainability is at the forefront of our minds. And now, with excitement and pride, we’re announcing our commitment to achieving the Green Key label, an internationally recognized symbol of sustainability and environmentally responsible business practices.
What is the Green Key label?
Green Key isn’t just any label, it’s a visible promise to our planet. It’s a prestigious international sustainability label awarded to lodgings, event venues, attractions, and restaurants that meet stringent environmental criteria and implement sustainable practices. In Flanders, this label is awarded annually by Tourism Flanders in collaboration with GoodPlanet Belgium.
A win-win situation
What makes achieving a Green Key label so valuable? The answer is straightforward: it’s beneficial for both our visitors and us as a business.
The Green Key label attracts environmentally conscious visitors. An increasing number of travellers and customers prioritize sustainability when choosing their destination or business partner. The label is assurance for our guests that they are minimizing their ecological footprint during their stay with us.
Apart from attracting a greener audience, the Green Key label can also result in significant cost savings. Implementing sustainable practices, such as energy conservation and waste reduction, leads to lower operational costs. Furthermore, we join a globally recognized eco-label, which not only enhances credibility but also opens doors to new business opportunities. We are supported by Tourism Flanders, who provide us with tailored guidance to achieve our sustainability goals.
A continuous commitment
Attaining a Green Key label isn’t a one-time achievement, it’s an ongoing effort to dedicate ourselves to the environment. The label is awarded annually, and to retain it, we must continue to innovate and improve. An independent jury assesses our efforts and decides whether we may keep the label. This yearly evaluation motivates us to continually strive for sustainability on all fronts of our business.
With the Green Key label on the horizon, we are determined to be a pioneer in sustainable corporate tourism in Flanders. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future, offering our guests an eco-friendly experience that aligns with our values and protects our planet.
We converted the old city brewery and former municipal office, ‘t Schaeckberd, into a wonderful base for your regional activities and with the ideal infrastructure for cowork or your next meeting or conference.
